recent updates

it's been a while since I last updated you... so here goes:
  1. Camp Com meeting #3: was the first meeting that we had in church - YPM office. one main highlight was deciding on the Camp t-shirt logo design competition winner...
  2. Registration has been good thus far. About 80-90 people have signed up & qualify for early bird camp fee of $65. Anyone who registers (i.e. submits the form) this weekend (5/6 nov) onwards will have to pay $75.
  3. The camp com will be going to Sentosa again tomorrow (1 nov, tue) for another recce - this time we'll be going to explore the games-sites... {the previous recce was good. we got to meet & talk to SU campsite staff and explore a bit at the beach nearby.}
Do continue to keep the camp committee in prayer. Pray also for Chye Aik (our camp speaker) as he prepares a relevant message for us, campers. Last, but not least, pray for yourself (as campers) - seek the Face of God and start considering what you'd expect from God through the camp...

Registration Clarifications

Hi Guys,

Just want to clarify a few information regarding registration procedures and camp fees. The reason why there is an "early bird" fee and "later bird" fee is because of the adminstration expenses incurred. So we urged you guys if you don't have the money or faced financial difficulties to raise the $65 first, it is alright to submit the form first.

Please note that once the form is submitted to us before 30 Oct, we would take it as an "early bird" submission.

So guys what are waiting for? Submit your forms to us and pay us later (preferably by late November)

Love,
IsAaC yEo
Publicity / Treasurer

Edit: late-bird or late registration incurs heavy administrative expenses (in terms of taxing manpower, not just monetary expenditure). Therefore, do not hesitate or delay, but submit the form quickly.
Announcements will also be made this weekend at services & in the church bulletin to clarify this aspect of submitting the form first, can pay later.
Stress: do not abuse the grace that has been given... pay the camp fees as soon as you are able to. For those in serious financial difficulty (really want to come for the camp but honestly cannot afford the camp fee), you can approach either Uncle William, Auntie Evelyn or me (amelia) - we can see how we can try to help.

thx for praying

  1. want to thank you for praying for my personal health (see two posts ago. click permanent-link aka. permalink). i visited the polyclinic on thursday morning and got some medication. i felt much better after taking the medicine.
  2. i wrote an email specifically to the leaders of ypm... asking for their prayers as i went on stage to share about the ypm camp & the theme (ReZolution) last weekend...
I really covet your prayers - for me, as I step forward to make announcements for the camp & launch the registration this weekend (during YPM service & Sunday's English & Bilingual services). As you probably already know, I am not the world's best communicator. My hands already tremble when I am not on stage, how much more they will tremble when I am on stage & nervous.
Please pray for me specifically in these areas:
  • That God may be glorified through me during the announcement time.
  • That I may be real and genuine before the congregation.
  • That I may clearly communicate what God has long ago written upon my heart for this camp, so that young people & their parents may catch this God-given vision too.
  • That the Holy Spirit will work in the hearts of people to excite them and motivate them to sign up for the camp (and to do so quickly )!

Thank you for partnering me in prayer. Thank you so much for your wonderful service to God as leaders in this ministry. There is no one in Church of Singapore that could replace you - leaders on the cutting edge, raised up for a specially loved group of young people!!

Thanks for praying!

spiritual milk retreat for p6s

Beloved YPM-ers...
let us remember the primary 6s in prayer... as they come for the "Spiritual Milk" Retreat in Church over the next 2 days (Wed - Thu).

We will also be publicising the YPM Camp at this retreat - pray for Isaac as he joins them for the retreat & just enjoys himself with the p6s. (NB: All p6s are strongly encouraged to go for Children's Camp before [signing up &] coming for YPM Camp.)

Pray for Uncle William, Evelyn & Zhirong as they lead and prepare for the programs at the Retreat. Remember that God loves all these p6s - they are all precious in His sight & have been made in His image.

May this retreat be the beginning of a greater adventure with God for them... as they learn to drink "spiritual milk", may they soon be able to graduate to eating other spiritual food.... 1 Pet. 2:1-3....

agape,
ameliaTan...

urgent prayer request!

please pray for me - especially for my physical health and good rest!
i didn't eat lunch on sunday... and since then, i've been experiencing something like gastric pains... Two days later, still experiencing it. =(

it may be stress-related.

just keep me in prayer... thank u... :)

in need of prayer!

insomnia

as i shared in the previous post, i've been extremely busy with the camp related stuff this week. Not to mention having to deal with my work in office also.

Therefore, i haven't yet been able to record/edit podcasts... as i would really desire to do in a timely fashion.
If you know of ypm-ers who are interested or capable in designing/implementing web templates or graphics design in web-sites, volunteer their names under the comments... i am currently considering out-sourcing the management of the design, look and feel of the blog to people outside the camp committee... =)

Some updates since the last post, 2 days ago...
  • Isaac has done a great job in designing a comprehensive camp registration form. And working hard on our camp budget - so that you, the early bird ypm-er, need only pay $65 for SU Campsite @ Sentosa.
  • Aaron has gone the extra mile, to help arrange for our first recce (the date has been changed to Saturday morning instead of Friday)... even though he himself won't be able to come along on Saturday morning.
  • Calvin is also busy with many things to settle before leaving for his trip to Australia. He's done a wonderful job thus far with all the prayer initiatives together with his wonderful prayer subcommittee - with bookmarks, Fri Nite meetings, The YPM PrayerLink (Companion Blog) and more. Please pray for Guang Hao, JiaEn and Shumin as they continue the work that God & Calvin have already begun in this aspect of prayer for the YPM Camp 2005.
Suffering from insomnia... far too many things on my mind right now... for what itz worth, i've been listening to music from Salvador's "So Natural" album... and one of my fave tracks - 03 "This is my life"
The only thing we have to offer our Lord is a heartfelt spirit of submission and gratitude, which is the subject of "This Is My Life." In it, Nic sings: "This is my life / This is my song / I'll give it to you / No matter the cost / This is my heart / That seeks after you / Lord help me love / More like you do." It's a wonderful ballad made better by the incorporation of the traditional hymn, "How Great Thou Art."

The thought just crossed my mind, in the wee small hours of the morning... That perhaps, with this weekend's launch of our Camp Registration. And with this week being a jump in busy-ness (& stress level for me)... I "feel" that the camp preparation is moving into a higher gear, compared to previous weeks. I and the camp committee covet your prayers for all of us and the planning... =) Good night! or should it be Good morning....

busy

dear all,

just to share with you (our dear ypm-ers) what's the latest updates for the camp preparation.
As most of you know, Matthew & Calvin will be travelling overseas soon. Calvin won't be back until 23 nov... Do continue to uphold him (& matthew) in your prayers, as they travel.

This week is a busy week, as we get ready to launch our camp registration this weekend! Be prepared for it! (see earlier posts for more details about registration & registration procedure!)

I will be meeting Chye Aik (our camp speaker) together with Aunty Evelyn & Uncle William this Thursday evening. I'm looking forward to this time of fellowship with this particular man of God. Do pray along with me & the camp committee for Chye Aik & his family as he seeks God for a specific word for all of us who will be coming for the camp.

On Friday, the camp committee will be making a trip over to Sentosa - for our first Recce! Pray for journey mercy & safety (just in case, not that i expect anything to happen =P). And also pray that we'll be able to find out (& settle) some administrative details with SU Campsite Office while we are there.

This Saturday, I will be making an announcement @ YPM - during the service announcement times... with more details regarding the camp registration. And also to share with you'all about the Theme of the camp.

On Sunday, I will also be making announcements during English service & later on at Bilingual service too.

i covet the powerful & united prayers of ypm-ers...

to YPM leaders...

This is a chapter taken out of the book "Habitudes" by Dr Tim Elmore.

Chapter 12 - The Half-Hearted Kamikaze.
KAMIKAZE PILOTS ARE ONLY USEFUL IF THEY ARE COMMITTED TO THEIR MISSION. LEADERS ARE THE SAME WAY. YOU CANNOT HAVE INVOLVEMENT WITHOUT COMMITMENT AND BE EFFECTIVE. IT GOES WITH THE TERRITORY.

I love the story of the kamikaze pilot, who flew in WWII for the Japanese air force. He was interviewed by a newspaper reporter after returning from his fiftieth mission. The reporter asked the pilot if he wasn't a contradiction in terms. How can someone be a kamikaze pilot - whose mission is to fly into military bases and give up his life in the process - and still be alive after fifty missions?

"Well it's like this", the pilot responded. "I was very involved. Not very committed, but very involved."

I always smile when I think of this story. A true kamikaze pilot only flies on one mission. He gives his life for that one mission. He cannot be involved without being committed.

There is no such thing as a half-hearted kamikaze. Commitment goes with the territory. And so it is with us. If we have any hope of being a successful person, much less an effective leader, we must be committed. Leaders possess commitment. They cannot be involved without being committed. The rest of the world may enjoy involvement without commitment, but we cannot, as emerging leaders.

What's the difference between involvement and commitment? Just ask a pig and a chicken, after eating a ham and egg breakfast. The chicken was involved. The pig was committed!

The word "mediocre" was first used to describe rock climbers who were involved but not committed. The word literally means "middle of the rock". It was used to describe climbers who didn't finish the climb, but stopped halfway. Ouch!

Our campuses are filled with students who want to be involved, but not really committed. They want to keep all their options open, and often don't make a decision until the last minute because a better opportunity may arise at the eleventh hour. In fact, because our world offers us so many options, we tend to not commit ourselves because we don't want to narrow our focus. We want to do it all! The problem is - we can't do it all. I have said many times: leaders can do anything, but they can't do everything. Nearly every great leader in history accomplished something memorable because of a narrow focus, and a great commitment to a cause. Even young leaders have figured this out and made their mark because they got committed.

Set aside the time from 14-17 December to join the full Camp.
What's the reason for doing so?
Simply because You ARE a YPM leader.

Hence I ask you again to re-consider:
Make the ReZolution...
Set aside the time...
Come for the full camp!(if you haven't already decided to do so.)

are you involved or committed to this Young Peoples' Ministry?

Yours Sincerely,
Amelia Tan
Camp Chairman
Fellow YPM Leader

NB: Sentosa's Regulation is $2/entry /person.
Therefore, if you need to travel into Sentosa on your own, you will have to settle your own entrance fees. The camp committee will only take care of the expenses of those who have signed up for the full camp.
