thu evening sermon

these are my notes for the sermon that Chye Aik preached on Thursday (15 dec 2005) at the YPM Camp, ReZolution'05.
Mark 14:3-9 (John 12:3-8)
People pour life onto something or someone. All value something or someone differently.
TITLE: Wasting Your Life On Jesus
when you're in love with someone, you're willing to do crazy things...
Action of Alabaster box of spiknard perfume
- rare - uncommon - not for ordinary people
$$ inheritance from parents?
$$ for future marriage?
  1. Giving without regard to cost
she was sharply criticized! even the 12 apostles criticized her - "crazy!"
Extraordinary Christian -> will be criticized.
She knew that it was a beautiful thing in the eyes of the Lord.
  2. Broke it - True brokeness and humility
True spiritual pride - God without you I can make it on my own.
What are the things we can't live without?
Until we need God the way we need air...
5 examples of broken things used to do great things:
    • Judges 6-8 Broken pitcher
    • Mark 14:3 Broken box - oil poured
    • Mark 14:10 Broken bread
    • 1 Corinthians 11:24 Broken body, world to save
    • Psalm 51:17 Broken will, fulfilled in Jesus Christ
  3. Wiped Jesus' feet with her hair
    laying down for God's disposal
sacred hair - wipe feet of Jesus (feet - dirtiest part of the body)
    totally sold out for Jesus
a life sold out for Jesus is never wasted -> it's beautiful in God's sight.

thu morn sermon

these are my notes for thursday morning (second day of the camp, 15 December 2005) :
1 Sam. 16:1-14
Chosen by God or Man
Background... Don't judge a book by its cover.
David was not chosen for 3 reasons
  1. young (1 Tim. 4:12)
    - strong foundation
  2. physical stature
    God can still choose you!
    Accept your physical appearance etc.
  3. experience
Things to Learn
  1. Don't let the world determine your worth
    - looks - talents - achievement/ awards
Paul -> let God determine his worth
    Phil. 3:10
  2. Your worth comes from your knowledge of God
David wasn't chosen by his own father
David didn't have things made of the world, but things made of the LORD.
    cognitive knowledge => experiential knowledge
God chose those things that are opposite from the world.
You are as important to God as Jesus is important to God.
Acts 13:22 - man after God's own heart
God looks at the quality of our heart.
Psalm 27 - one thing I desire.

3 Compartments of Life
  1. PUBLIC LIFE - everybody knows you to be
  2. PRIVATE LIFE - friends don't know, family knows, close people know
  3. INNER LIFE - nobody knows; thoughts/desires/affections/motives; God looks at it!
To be a God-Made Man
Acts 4 -> they perceived that these people had been with Jesus!
disclaimer - no 100% accuracy in these notes... juz my personal notes taken during the camp itself....

No Condemnation - FREEDOM
  1. Freedom from Sin
    - the thing you should do, you do not do
    - the thing you should not do, you do
Know, but don't have the power.
Sin causes us to live below our full potential.
    a prince vs. a pauper.
Col. 2:14-15 (v. 14 talks about the penalty; v. 15 talks about the power).
Jesus: the sin-breaker. destroy the presence of sin.

    Guard Desires

unlikely history maker

that's the title for the sermon on Friday morning (16 Dec. 2005)....
Chye Aik shared it in the spirit of encouraging us - especially towards the female campers in the camp...

Title: Unlikely History Maker
There are different kinds of Heroes.
The heroes in the bible often don't have good background, charisma, or looks...
The World's heroes - stylish, packaged, strong
The Word's heroes - not impressive, not eloquent (e.g. Paul)

RAHAB Jos. 2
  • prostitute background.
deepest sin is self-righteousness: prostituted mind, spirit, emotions
  • lived in Jericho.
    difficulties, obstacles, barriers, troubles
    life full of problems everywhere
  • lied to the king in Jericho.
Rahab encountered the grace and mercy of God.
Threw away her old form of life and began to live a new life.
Eventually married an Israelite... Ruth.... King David...
Matthew 1:5 - She was a great-great-great-...-great-grandmother of Jesus Christ :)
Hebrews 11 - She was named among the great heroes of faith.
If God can use Rahab... God can make you into an unlikely history-maker too.

The Testimony of Reggie Dantz....
As usual, Disclaimer still holds - no 100% guarantee regarding accuracy of these notes, taken during the camp.

some more video clips

so i spent some time recently to digitize a few more tapes....

and before i create a video for more sermons from the camp...

i decided to make some short clips ... so voila, these videos:
  • ministry time - i realized there weren't many clips just focused on showing chye aik (our camp speaker) ministering to campers... so i put together this raw video (raw - coz i didn't do much editing, and the soundtrack is REAL).
watch it here! (35MB, .wmv windows media stream, 13:05min)
  • acoustic worship - we had one service where we wanted to have acoustic worship (as opposed to full band), to allow campers to experience worship of God with a simpler band "accompaniment"...
there are 2 versions of this video (5:45min) -
    1. windows media stream version: (15.3MB) Bigger picture size, but only available as a stream - i.e. watch online only.
    2. mpeg1 version: (30MB) Smaller picture size, but you can click and save as/ download to your computer and watch it offline, if you want.
well, hope you'all enjoy these short clips...

Saturday Morning Sermon - Notes

This is my transcript of the sermon notes (or nuggets - following the camp booklet) for Saturday Morning during the camp... {again, no 100% guarantees on the accuracy/correctness of these notes.)

about Heart of God
Rom. 15:15-21
TITLE: Apostolic Passion
Passion
- something that people are willing to suffer for
- "to suffer with"
Apostolic - Apostle
- sent one; messenger, proclaimer
deliberate, intentional choice
to live for Jesus in a place where Jesus is not worshipped yet.
committed to the point of death to spread His glory.
Not willing to suffer for Jesus => not passionate for Him

How to get apostolic passion?
Not like ordering pizza... Not immediate...
Paul chose to have this apostolic passion. Acts 9.
spend time with Jesus everyday - consumed him.
God has put us in a strategic place.
God placed me there... Reason? Purpose?
  1. Paul understood Apostolic Abandonment.
Abandonment - Paul learned to die daily. Gal. 2:20
Paul died to his own ambition, his own achievement.
Main focus - die to worldly success, selfishness.
Competing passions. Lordship of Christ - Christ seated on the throne (Guard it!)

  2. Apostolic Focus. life must be focused!
the Devil wants you to be preoccupied with many things.
One thing! Don't let your life be preoccupied with many trivial things.
Must do things that count for eternity.
Plant the flag of Jesus Christ where His flag isn't planted yet.
First things first => Making Him known.

  3. Apostolic Praying - powerful weapon
prayerwalk... pray for people! pull down strongholds.

  4. Apostolic Decision Making Acts 20:24
Don't make decisions just based on economic sense/ because everyone's doing it.
Make decisions based on what God has placed in your heart. God's purpose in your heart!!

What will happen to you?
  • You become the Most dangerous person on earth.
  • The World no longer rules your heart.
  • You will be Committed to spreading the Good News.
  • You are Unattached to the World.
  • The Father's Passion becomes your passion.
  • The Father is always with you.
  • Satan fears you.
  • Angels applause you.
