thu evening sermon

these are my notes for the sermon that Chye Aik preached on Thursday (15 dec 2005) at the YPM Camp, ReZolution'05.
Mark 14:3-9 (John 12:3-8)
People pour life onto something or someone. All value something or someone differently.
TITLE: Wasting Your Life On Jesus
when you're in love with someone, you're willing to do crazy things...
Action of Alabaster box of spiknard perfume
- rare - uncommon - not for ordinary people
$$ inheritance from parents?
$$ for future marriage?
  1. Giving without regard to cost
she was sharply criticized! even the 12 apostles criticized her - "crazy!"
Extraordinary Christian -> will be criticized.
She knew that it was a beautiful thing in the eyes of the Lord.
  2. Broke it - True brokeness and humility
True spiritual pride - God without you I can make it on my own.
What are the things we can't live without?
Until we need God the way we need air...
5 examples of broken things used to do great things:
    • Judges 6-8 Broken pitcher
    • Mark 14:3 Broken box - oil poured
    • Mark 14:10 Broken bread
    • 1 Corinthians 11:24 Broken body, world to save
    • Psalm 51:17 Broken will, fulfilled in Jesus Christ
  3. Wiped Jesus' feet with her hair
    laying down for God's disposal
sacred hair - wipe feet of Jesus (feet - dirtiest part of the body)
    totally sold out for Jesus
a life sold out for Jesus is never wasted -> it's beautiful in God's sight.
