this is the report i prepared for our church magazine - the "shield of faith".
"But none of these things move me; nor do I count my life dear to myself, so that I may finish my race with joy, and the ministry which I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God." (Acts 20:24 NKJV)
That was the theme verse for the recent YPM Camp 2005: ReZolution. From 14 December to 17 December last year, 118 young people spent four days and three nights gathered at the Scripture Union Campsite in Sentosa.
YPM Camp 2005: ReZolution is in many ways a continuation of YPM Camp Revolution'04. We stayed at the same campsite, on the same dates (14-17 December) and on the same days (Wednesday to Saturday).
One highlight of the camp was the games. Like the previous camp, we went to the beach (Palawan Beach) near the campsite for games. However, we also went to different parts of Sentosa on the second day for station games. Overall, campers were able to have fun and bond as teams during the games. This culminated on the third day where groups played against one another in a series of war games.
Another highlight of the camp was the worship during services. Anointed worship leaders and teams of music ministers led campers into a heart-felt worship, worshiping God in the beauty of His Holiness. Although some of the air-conditioners in the main hall were not working, it did not bother campers much – they kept on worshiping God.
Pre-service prayer was a significant and instrumental component to create an atmosphere where the Holy Spirit could move in and throughout all the services. During ministry time and altar calls, groups of young people would pray for one another, out of their own initiative.
The camp speaker, Ng Chye Aik, shared openly with great transparency from his own personal life, struggles et al, thus presenting an honest and real representation of the true Christian walk. He encouraged the campers from the first message on Wednesday evening which challenged young people to walk in freedom with God to the final message on Saturday morning which commissioned young people to "plant a flag in their schools for Christ".
The camp theme was directed at calling a new generation of youths to rise up and fulfill their potential and purpose in Christ. Throughout the camp preparation process, we could see new leaders rising up. Among the group leaders and assistant leaders, there were some who had opportunity to experience serving in such roles for the first time. We also organized a t-shirt design competition, to involve YPM-ers in the designing of the camp t-shirt. Eventually, one winner was selected. The camp t-shirt was designed by one of our secondary school students, Lydia Yang. This camp was also her first time attending the YPM Camp.
The theme of the camp was ReZolution. It is my desire that all campers will make the resolution to know Christ and to make Him known – that they may find ways to apply the lessons that they learned during the camp into their daily lives throughout this year.
